Blacksmithing Forge

Today we attempted to build a 2011 Lego Kingdoms set, Blacksmith Attack (6918):

6918-1This set is 104 pieces (including all the minifigs and tools). This set mostly uses types of pieces that are fairly common in current/newer sets, but it does require a few technic pieces for the moving parts.

Instructions:

Instructions can be found on BrickInstructions as jpg’s or directly from Lego as a pdf. Printing the instruction book pdf 4-up (four sheets per page), two-sided required four pages. We left off the advertising pages to save printer ink, but that didn’t make a difference in how many sheets are needed to print the instructions. (How to print 4-up?)

Pieces Required:

The parts list is printed in the pdf instructions above, or see Peeron’s inventory for the set.

Our Build:

We were a little short on the proper tools, and certain other pieces so we improvised with the ones we had on hand. One of the trickiest pieces was the water-wheel, as it is made out of a specialized technic pieces we didn’t have. We ended up substituting a slightly smaller “parabolic ring” from a lego star-wars set. It looks a little out of scale, but functionally, it still spins.

Speaking of spinning, this set is actually pretty neat, because when you spin the “water wheel” it actually makes the hammer go up and down and tap the anvil…and even with all the substitutions we had to make, it still works! Kiddo had a lot of fun spinning the wheel and making the hammer go up and down.
