Encouraging Quotes on Faith

These quotes are here because I find them inspiring and encouraging. Where possible, I have cited the source.

If we would only give, just once, the same amount of reflection to what we want to get out of life that we give to the question of what to do with a two weeks’ vacation, we would be startled at our false standards and the aimless procession of our busy days. ~Dorothy Canfield Fisher

“You can’t always get what you want, but if you try, sometimes, well, you just might find you get what you need.”

“truth makes a problem part of the past, lies make a problem part of the future”

“You can overcome negative thinking. No matter who you are or what your circumstances, there’s always much to be grateful for. Think about God’s love for you. Praise Him for His providential care. Then, instead of complaining about thorns, you’ll be thankful for the roses.” —Richard De Haan

Psalm 51:12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.-Matthew 6:27,34?

Security is having a settled mind. It’s in the Bible, Psalm 112:7-8, TLB. “He does not fear bad news, nor live in dread of what may happen. For he is settled in his mind that Jehovah will take care of him. That is why he is not afraid but can calmly face his foes.”

When Relationships Go Bad?

“Maybe God wants us to meet a few wrong people before meeting the right one, so that when we finally meet the person, we will know how to be grateful.”

Finely Tuned Racecars

This I found attributed to someone who identifies themsevelves as “me” and as “Patrick”. I wish I knew who either of those people were so I could properly attribute this story:

Girl says: I’m not a very religious person myself, and many of my friends aren’t either. Some of them think that religion is a crutch for weak people. [silence. Patrick looks at me.] Well, don’t you think that’s bad?

Patrick responds: No, why should I? I don’t know one person that doesn’t need a crutch. Some people depend on alcohol, other people depend on their family, or friends, or money. I depend on God. Religion is the most powerful when experienced through weakness. But that’s not the thing…religion may start off as a crutch, but it ends up as a race car. Yeah, Christianity is most powerful when people are dependent on God, but it’s not really like you’re dependent; it’s like you’re plugged in.

Nobody gripes about a race car that can go two hundred miles per hour being dependent on gas, even though it is. Jesus teaches that if you believe in him, then it’s like you’re building a house on a rock (as opposed to say…sand). Storms will come, but the house will survive, and you don’t need to build it again. There are a lot of storms in life: aging, breaking up with significant others, graduating, it’s nice to have something there that you can believe in.
